Thank you for contacting me about the treatment of people with Myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME)/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). Unfortunately, l am unable to make the Westminster Hall Debate on ME/CFS, scheduled for Wednesday 1 May.
Recognising the challenges faced by the ME/CFS community, the Government is actively developing a delivery plan with the aim of improving outcomes. Consultation has already taken place on more immediate actions to improve the experience and outcomes of people living with ME/CFS. Responses from patient groups such as the ME Association and Action on ME are being analysed, and are helping the Government to understand how well the interim delivery plan addresses issues most important to the ME/CFS community, and where further action may be required.
A summary of the consultation responses will be published in due course, which will inform the final delivery plan. Where appropriate, the final delivery plan will align with other devolved nations, for example the Scottish Government’s work on research into ME/CFS. The Government is also committed to funding research into ME/CFS, including through the National Institute for Health and Care Research.
Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.
