This weekend past my team and I spent Saturday taking park in the Great British beach clean. This initiative was set up to encourage groups across the country to come together and help keep our beaches and seas free from pollution. It also served to monitor the level of pollution on our beaches.
A few hours of tackling Scoble beach in Salcombe was an illuminating experience. We found nearly everything you can imagine, including everything you would likely find in your nearest convenience store.
Our coast is, without doubt, a natural wonder of the world and we must do all we can to protect and safeguard it for years to come. This will mean taking some preventative measures. Eradicating single-use plastics (it does not just end with straws and swizzle sticks!!!), ensuring that our recycling mechanism works and ensuring that we are all playing our part.
In just a few small hours we manage to clear the beach of the majority of its' rubbish and input the pollution data.
Let's hope that greater awareness and combined action will lead to us taking greater care of the products we use, recycle, up-cycle and throw away!
