Recently elected Member of Parliament Anthony Mangnall used his first question in Parliament to speak up for South Brent Village shop and the impact of business rates across South Devon.
Anthony speaking on the first day of Parliament in 2020 asked the Sajid Javid MP, the Chancellor, whether he would work with fellow Members of Parliament to review business rates. The Chancellor welcomed Anthony to his seat as a new MP and committed to reviewing business rates in the coming months.
The matter of business rates was raised during the election and the Conservative Party committed in their manifesto to reviewing the rates and impact it has on businesses across the country.
Anthony said 'it is important that business outside of London get the support they need to grow and develop. Business rates are often squeezing some of our smallest but most important enterprises out of existence. We need to protect our village shops, local butchers and bakers and our high streets across our rural and urban communities. As the new MP for the Constituency of Totnes I am going to be working on this issue to help review and hopefully reduce business rates." Â
