Last week, Anthony visited RNLI Salcombe Lifeboat Station to learn more about their lifeboats and the vital service they provide to the local community.
Crewed almost exclusively by volunteers, the team responds to an average of around 55 callouts each year, saving countless lives along the South Devon coast. With 238 lifeboat stations operating 451 lifeboats around the country, as well as lifeguards working on 247 beaches in the summer season, the RNLI is a remarkable organisation which relies on support from the public.
Thanks to Mark Dowie, Chief Executive of the RNLI, as well as Salcombe Lifeboat's coxswain Chris Winzer and deputy coxswain Cameron Sims-Sterling for showing me around this remarkable vessel and telling me more about the organisation.
