Brixham-based charity Play Torbay has been working hard throughout the Covid-19 pandemic to ensure that children have access to play opportunities. The charity creates and distributes Let’s Create and Play Packs, featuring engaging, age-appropriate activities for children and young people aged 0-19 years.
To date, Play Torbay has developed 4 different packs for 5-12 year olds, the latest of which is currently being delivered to families across Torbay. This fantastic resource includes 8 varied activities from planting seeds to making Christmas tree decorations, with the option to join a weekly Zoom session with the playworkers. The Winter Pack contains detailed instructions for each session as well as the materials required for each activity.
A fifth pack is being developed along with colleagues from Torbay Climate Action. The Eco Play Pack will be available in January containing creative ways for children to be actively involved in protecting the planet.
Anthony is working with Play Torbay to offer advice on funding sources so that the charity can keep supporting families in Torbay.
Play Torbay Director, Tanny Stobart, says:
“ALL children need to play. It is fundamental to their healthy development and they want to play because it is how they work things out. Through play they can replay past events including working through both good and difficult experiences. For some children Covid has been very difficult. Play gives children the medium and the pathways to extend thinking and understanding to develop and heal. Play is vital to developing resilience to deal with stress and anxiety and instrumental in supporting their mental health and well-being.”
