Census Day is on Sunday 21 March. It is vital that all residents take part in Census 2021 as it gives a picture of all the people and households in England and Wales, helping to inform decisions on how to plan and fund local services such as transport, education and healthcare.
The census will ask questions about you and your household, looking at who you are, what you do and how you live. The last census in 2011 found that there were 37590 households in the Totnes & South Devon constituency, 27.9% of residents were retired and 96.29% of residents spoke English as their main language.
Census 2021 will encourage residents to take part digitally. In early March, households will receive a letter in the post with an access code, allowing them to log into the website and complete the census on a smartphone, tablet or computer. You can also request a paper version if you prefer. It should take about 10 minutes per person to complete. Households could be fined up to £1,000 if they do not complete the census.
If you need help completing the census, visit www.census.gov.uk where there will be an online help area, or call the contact centre free on 0800 141 2021.
The census is run by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the UK’s largest independent producer of official statistics. The ONS has a strict security regime following government standards to ensure all personal information is kept safe, and all information published in statistics is anonymous.
