Totnes high street

Businesses which were ordered to close when the national restrictions came into place on 5 November can apply for a grant of £1,334, £2,000 or £3,000 depending on the rateable value. Once approved, the grant will provide eligible businesses with a rolling 28-day grant, lasting as long as national restrictions apply.

The Government’s Local Restrictions Support Grant (LRSG) is aimed at businesses which were told that they must close because of the threat posed by Covid-19. These include businesses in the hospitality industry, leisure industry and those which provide personal care. If a business is substantially closed but still able to offer some click and collect or takeaway service, it is still eligible for the grant. Find more information on eligible businesses here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/further-businesses-and-premises-to-close/closing-certain-businesses-and-venues-in-england

To be eligible for this LRSG, businesses must occupy and be liable for business rates on a property that appeared in the Local Rating List on 4 November 2020; have been trading on 4 November 2020; have been open as usual on 4 November 2020 and providing in-person services from their premises; and have been mandated to close from 5 November 2020 to visiting members of the public.

Businesses based in the South Hams can apply on the South Hams District Council website. Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis with the first payments reaching bank accounts from Wednesday 25 November. Apply here: https://southhams.gov.uk/LRSG

Businesses based in Torbay can apply on the Torbay Council website. Apply here: https://www.torbay.gov.uk/businesses-financial-support/
Please note, a discretionary grant is also available for non-rate paying businesses which have been severely impacted by the restrictions. More information can be found on the aforementioned website.
