Eligible families living in the Devon County Council area are encouraged to apply to receive a Get a Healthy Start food box in October, full of fresh fruit and vegetables. Boxes will be delivered straight to your door along with recipes to prepare the fresh produce, information on Healthy Start and how it is changing, and free vitamins.
The recipes included with the box are:
· Singapore Style Stir Fry Noodles
· Mighty Minestrone Soup
· Garden Pie
· Tasty Tagine with Butternut Squash
· Easy Omelette Bites
· Creamy Rice Pudding with Autumn Fruit Swirl
Each recipe will have tips on how to swap or add ingredients (including meat and fish), as well as tips on healthy eating, how to introduce infants to solid food and how to prevent food waste!
A limited number of boxes are available. Applications will close at midday on Friday 24th September or when all boxes are allocated.
To be eligible for the Healthy Start scheme, you must be at least 10 weeks pregnant or have at least one child under the age of 4. In addition, you must be receiving one of the following:
- Child Tax Credit (only if your family’s annual income is £16,190 or less)
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Pension Credit (which includes the child addition)
- Universal Credit (only if your family’s take-home pay is £408 or less per month from employment.
You will also be eligible for Healthy Start if:
- you’re under 18 and pregnant, even if you are not claiming any benefits
- you claim income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) and are over 10 weeks pregnant
- you or your partner get Working Tax Credit run-on only. (Working Tax Credit run-on is the Working Tax Credit you receive in the 4 weeks immediately after you have stopped working for 16 hours or more per week)
