Homeowners in England, including landlords, can now apply for a grant of up to £5000 to make their homes warmer and energy bills cheaper.
The Green Homes Grant will allow homeowners to install energy efficient home improvements, saving them money on their energy bills and helping the environment by cutting emissions. 600,000 households could save up to £600 a year on energy bills by taking advantage of the grant.
The government will provide a voucher to fund up to two thirds of the cost of hiring tradespeople to upgrade the energy performance of your home, up to maximum contribution of £5000. Low income households can get 100% of the costs of work covered, up to a maximum of £10,000.
Improvements covered by the scheme include home insulation and low carbon heating, as well as secondary measures such as draught proofing and double/triple glazing.
Homeowners must make sure they’re eligible for the scheme, check what improvements may be suitable for their home then find registered installers to get quotes for the work. Once they have quotes, they can then apply for their voucher.
Tradespeople must make sure they’re eligible to carry out work under the scheme and register with TrustMark in order to become a Green Homes Grant installer.
