"On International Women’s Day, it is important to recognise and celebrate women’s achievements and to bring attention to women’s rights and gender equality. This past year has highlighted the value of women’s contributions around the world as health care workers, caregivers, innovators, community organisers and leaders.
However, women across the globe have been subjected to rising levels of gender-based violence. As Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on the Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative (PSVI) , I continue to work with parliamentarians from across the world to raise the issue of gender-based violence and to ensure that the UK continues to be a leading force in this area.
The Government reassures me that PSVI is a top priority for the FCDO, and in 2019 UK bilateral spend on projects dedicated to tackling gender-based violence and violence against women and girls was at least £47.1 million."
