Yesterday the Minister of State (Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office) gave a statement in the House of Commons on the current political situation in Myanmar, where the military seized power from the democratically elected government.
Speaking after the minister’s statement, Anthony highlighted the need for an international body to respond to events such as this, as well as a ‘Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict’ body to ensure we can support survivors of sexual violence, genocide and human rights violations; document crimes and lead criminal cases against those perpetrators.
The Minister assured Anthony that the Government is working with international partners on these issues and is monitoring the humanitarian situation in Myanmar.
