Devon County Council and Torbay Council each receive £50,000 to support domestic abuse victims.
Kelly Tolhurst, the Minister for Rough Sleeping and Housing has today announced that local authorities will each receive £50,000 to help support domestic abuse victims. The funding will be used to help councils prepare for the introduction of landmark legislation that will ensure domestic abuse victims and their families get the vital help they need.
A total of £6 million in funding will allow councils in England to commission additional support for those who might currently be turned away from refuges and other safe accommodation because their needs cannot be met. The Domestic Abuse Bill will come into force in April 2021, placing a new legal responsibility on councils in England to assess and provide support and safe accommodation to victims and their children. Thousands of people across the country who are fleeing abuse are expected to be helped by the new law.
