Thank you for contacting me about dementia diagnosis and research. Dementia is an issue that I feel very strongly about. I have recently undergone my ‘Dementia Friends’ training so I can understand more about the issues faced by dementia sufferers and their carers, and have engaged with local organisations in order to discuss what more can be done.
I entirely agree that research is crucial to understanding and tackling dementia, and I was proud to stand on a manifesto that committed to making finding a cure for dementia one of the Government's biggest collective priorities. Tjos has been reflected in the development of the new 10-Year Plan for Dementia. It was positive to see the Government re-committing to publishing the 10-Year Plan later this year at this year’s Alzheimer’s Society Conference.
The 10-Year Plan will focus on how new technology can be used to improve outcomes for dementia patients across the country. This will include exploring ways of building on the Government’s £375 million investment over the next five years, to improve understanding and treatment for a range of neurodegenerative diseases, including different types of dementia.
I can assure you I will be taking further action over the coming days, weeks, months and years to help deliver on the promise to double funding for dementia research for sufferers and their families.
