Home abortion

Thank you for contacting me about home abortions and the vote to extend this option that took place on the 30th March.

I completely understand what an incredibly emotive issue this is, and I appreciate the strength of feelings on both sides. It is for this reason that, as with other matters of conscience, the Government adopts a neutral stance on abortion, allowing Conservative MPs to vote freely according to their moral, ethical, or religious beliefs. This is a convention which I support wholeheartedly.

Having read a number of different briefings arguing both for and against the extension of home abortions, I came to the decision that based on the statistics from the use of these abortions throughout the pandemic that it is better to give women the right to choose what route they take when accessing an abortion.

I realise that this will be disappointing to you, however, this is what, at this time, felt ethically right to me.
