Brixham Does Care

Brixham Does Care is a befriending charity which attempts to combat loneliness, isolation and despair. The charity supports people of all ages and backgrounds, aiming to improve the independence of vulnerable people and to enhance quality of life, education, health and social welfare.

Services & Activities: Companionship and befriending, books and jigsaw lending. Regular activities include outings, arts and crafts groups, lunch club, film club and bingo.

Dartmouth Caring

Dartmouth Caring supports the most vulnerable in society including the elderly, younger adults and teenagers. Their aim is to help everyone to live their lives as they choose, connecting those who feel isolated and improving the emotional and physical health and well-being of clients

Services & Activities:
Home help, counselling, transport, shopping, and befriending. Regular activities include Lunch Clubs (every Wednesday 12.15pm in Dartmouth Guildhall), Visually Impaired Reading Group (monthly on a Thursday 2pm – 4pm in Dartmouth Guildhall), Memory Café (every Tuesday 10.30am – 12.30pm at Dartmouth Baptist Church). Transport is available for those who are unable to make their own way.
Dementia advice and support is also available, as is a liaison service for cancer and palliative care.

Kingsbridge Age Concern

Now part of the new Kingsbridge Care Club, Age Concern supports and promotes the health and wellbeing of people over the age of 55 in the local community.

Services & Activities:
Lunch delivery. Regular activities including coffee mornings, weekday lunches, Saturday morning breakfasts, a Memory Café run by the Alzheimers Society for those with a diagnosis, and an Arts and Crafts Group. Kingsbridge Age Concern also hosts regular advice and support fairs and offers a wide range of advice and guidance.

Kingsbridge and Saltstone Caring

Kingsbridge and Saltstone Caring promotes the independence, physical and mental wellbeing of older, isolated or vulnerable people living in Kingsbridge, Salcombe and the surrounding area.

Services & Activities:
Befriending, carer relief, shopping, outings, transport.

South Brent & District Caring

South Brent & District Caring is a befriending service which offers help to those living in South Brent and the surrounding parishes. They aim to improve quality of life and promote the independence of the older, isolated and vulnerable members of the community with the active support of local volunteers.

Services & Activities:
Befriending, DIY help, transport, shopping and prescription collection, carer respite. Regular activities include coffee mornings (every Monday 10.30am – 12pm at the Old School Community Centre), lunch clubs (every Monday 12pm at the Old School Community Centre) and Friendsday Wednesday Club incorporating the Memory Café and Carers’ Support Group (every Wednesday 2pm – 4pm at the Old School Community Centre).
Transport is available for those who are unable to make their own way.
South Brent & District Caring is working to help make South Brent a dementia friendly community, with dementia advice available through their information library.

Totnes Caring

Totnes Caring supports older people in Totnes and the surrounding areas, encouraging them to live as independently as possible while connecting them to their local community to increase their health and wellbeing. They do this by delivering group activities, bringing people together, and by providing support, information and advice to individuals. To use the charity’s services, you must be registered with either Leadside surgery or Catherine House surgery and live within their coverage area.

Services & Activities:
Home help, shopping, prescription and hot lunch delivery. Regular activities include Lunch Club (every Monday 12.15pm – 13.45pm at Totnes Conservative Club), Art Groups (every Monday morning and Monday afternoon), Men’s Cookery (monthly), Pop Up Café (monthly at St John’s Church in Bridgetown), New Directions (a variety of activities every Tuesday 2pm – 4pm at Totnes Conservative Club) and Memory Café (every Thursday 2pm – 4pm at Totnes Boating Association). Transport is available for those who are unable to make their own way.
Dementia advice and support is also available including monthly support groups for carers, both face to face and on Zoom.
