Thank you for writing to me about the VegAPPG report on the provision of dietary choice in care homes and the related APPG meeting in December.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is responsible for the regulation of care services in England, and has existing standards for what good care from a care home looks like.
This includes the expectation that care homes are responsive to the needs of residents, including dietary requirements. Such support needs should be outlined in a written care plan that allows care to be personalised for every resident.
The report includes recommendations on the skills and qualifications of care workers. You may be reassured that in October 2021, the Government announced £162.5 million investment to support and upskill the adult social care workforce, so that there is the right number of staff to deliver high-quality care to meet increasing demands.
