This morning I brought South West Water together with Brixham Chamber of Commerce, local business owners, Torbay Councillors and Brixham Town Councillors to discuss support for businesses.
The discussion highlighted the need for greater ongoing support for businesses, which South West Water confirmed they are happy to provide. They recognise the negative impact on businesses as well as on the wider tourism industry in the area.
South West Water representatives reiterated that all businesses in the Brixham area that have been affected by the events of recent weeks should contact them to discuss their case and seek advice.
SWW can make interim compensation payments for costs incurred, then keep claims open as businesses consider the ongoing impact.
I am pleased to hear that those who have initiated claims have found the process to be simple and staff to be extremely helpful.
Brixham Chamber of Commerce, local councillors and I will continue to support local businesses and make the case to South West Water for ongoing support.
SWW have taken away a number of points from today’s meeting, and I look forward to holding further meetings to hear what more they can do.
Any businesses in the area are urged to attend the drop in sessions or to telephone the business helpline on 03332 343 293. The hours for this helpline have been extended to 9am to 7pm, Monday to Friday, and 9am to 2pm Saturday and Sunday.
Ahead of the Bank Holiday weekend, I am delighted to see Brixham, Kingswear and the surrounding area open for business and ready to welcome all visitors, so I hope to see you out and about!
