I am proud to support The Filo Project's campaign calling for VAT exemption for not-for-profit organisations offering dementia care.
The Filo Project is an award-winning Community Interest Company (CIC) offering unique, high quality day care within hosts’ homes for small groups of socially isolated older people with early to moderate dementia.
As a CIC they are required to charge families VAT on the essential service they provide. Other organisations providing welfare goods and services benefit from VAT exemption, but only those that are a charity, public body or state-regulated private welfare institution.
Many people across South Devon rely on The Filo Project for essential support, but the additional cost of VAT is a barrier for some.
I am therefore joining The Filo Project in calling for the Government to change the VAT rules in the Budget in March 2024 so that not-for-profit organisations like The Filo Project, delivering welfare services are exempt from VAT.
