The Boundary Commission for England has concluded its review of Parliamentary constituencies and its reports have been laid before Parliament.
This includes renaming the ‘Totnes’ Constituency as ‘South Devon’. Having campaigned for this name change since 2021, I am pleased this recommendation has been made as it will better reflect the composition of the constituency.
I previously asked residents to support the change, which will better represent them. While Totnes was previously the constituency’s major town, boundary changes over the years have left residents feeling confused as to why they are part of a constituency that only reflects the name of one town. Residents of Brixham, Paignton, Dartmouth, Kingsbridge and Salcombe have felt that the constituency name of Totnes neither reflects their respective areas nor the composition of the parliamentary seat.
As well as changing the name, the constituency’s borders are also set to change slightly, with the Charterlands Ward of the South Hams joining South Devon and some streets in Paignton moving into the Torbay constituency.
