I am aware of reports yesterday of pollution on the River Dart.
I received an update from the Environment Agency, stating that their staff had investigated and confirmed the source as soil erosion/muddy surface water run-off from an arable field following intense rainfall.
Advice has been issued on the Swimfo website against swimming at the new designated bathing waters in the River Dart Estuary as these could be affected. These are Steamer Quay (Totnes), Stoke Gabriel, Dittisham, Warfleet Creek (Dartmouth) and Dartmouth Castle and Sugary Cove.
Further investigation will be undertaken today, when the EA expects to be able to confirm that the risk to bathing has passed.
Please do check the Swimfo website to stay up to date on this issue: https://environment.data.gov.uk/bwq/profiles/
