Ongoing fighting in Ethiopia has led to a humanitarian crisis with atrocious crimes being committed.
Anthony asked James Duddridge MP, Minister for Africa, how the foreign aid reduction will impact our ability to fund projects in Ethiopia, and whether the Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict team is ready to deploy into the country. The Minister confirmed that the UK is working with UN partners to determine what support is required in the region. UK-funded aid agencies are working in Tigray and the UK will allocate a further £16.7 million to respond to this crisis, bringing our total spend in the region to £47.7 million since November 2020.
I look forward to discussing this issue in greater detail when I lead a debate tomorrow on the Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative.
