I have spoken many times about the need to find a balance between holiday accommodation and homes for local people.
While measures allowing councils to charge 200% council tax for second homes are welcome, only 8% of this revenue would go to District Councils such as South Hams. I highlighted this issue to the Minister for Housing and Planning Rachel Maclean MP, and am having discussions with HM Treasury to ensure local communities benefit.
I also asked the Minister to look at incentivising long-term landlords, making sure legislation is balanced and fair for all parties.
