The tourism and hospitality sectors play a huge part in our local and national economy. The way in which they reopen and how they are supported will determine how far and fast our economy recovers. During the General Debate on Covid-19 Anthony once again stood up for the pubs, bars, B&Bs and hotels of South Devon, many of whom have been out of action for over 200 days.
Anthony says "I hope that my campaign to extend 5% VAT and the business rates holiday is successful at next week's Spring Budget, as both measures will provide breathing space for businesses to recover from what has been a dreadful period.
I was also pleased to speak up for young people. Millions of young have had their lives put on hold despite being the least likely to be severely impacted by the virus. We must do all we can to support them, whether they are entering a job for the first time, leaving school or entering university. Creating opportunity and a landscape for them to succeed is a top priority and it should be a way of thank them for all that they have done over the course of the last thirteen months."
