A fantastic local environmental organisation has been awarded a grant of £478,000 from the Government’s £80 million Green Recovery Challenge Fund.
Moor Trees, which grows thousands of trees each year at their nursery near Totnes to be used in woodland planting and restoration schemes, will receive the funding as part of the Close the Gap project. This environmental partnership project is an 18-month programme focused on achieving bigger, healthier, better-connected hedgerows so as to enhance bio-diversity, protect wildlife and regenerate our countryside.
The funding will allow Moor Trees to improve their tree nurseries; train 10 young apprentices who will qualify with RHS Level 2 Horticulture; create 2 full time jobs and 2 part time jobs in the tree nurseries; work with volunteers and community groups; and establish new community seed nurseries nationwide.
Speaking after the funding announcement, Anthony said "Moor Trees have already done so much for the woodlands, hedgerows and green spaces across Devon, so this funding uplift is particularly welcome. I will continue to speak up on behalf of organisations like Moor Trees to ensure that Devon is not only the greenest place in the UK but an example to all."
