It has been readily apparent that over the course of the pandemic, access to NHS dentists was significantly reduced.
Since late last year, I and fellow Devon MPs have repeatedly engaged with the Department of Health and Social Care - DHSC and relevant Ministers to ask what more can be done to improve access to dentists and to clear out the backlogs.
The recent BBC report highlighting the South West as having the worst access in the country sadly comes as no surprise to myself or other Devon MPs, as we have seen first-hand the many problems.
When I raised this matter in Parliament some months ago, I was told that options were being explored. Those solutions need to come forward quickly as we cannot face any further delay.
I have requested an emergency meeting with the Secretary of State for Health and am meeting with a number of dentists over the coming days to ensure that our access to local services is dramatically improved.
I am working on this matter and will do all I can to improve this situation.
