Anthony recently hosted a Climate Change Roundtable with local experts to discuss coastal and inland flooding in South Devon.
Speaking after the meeting, Anthony said "discussions on climate change are never far from the agenda. All the more so after the UK declared its intention to slash emissions by 78% by 2035 compared to 1990 levels.
This is now the world’s most ambitious climate change target and will be enshrined in law.
Parliament will be voting on this issue in June and I look forward to adding my support for this initiative and helping to kickstart the green revolution across the UK.
I promised during the General Election of 2019 to create a roundtable group of experts to discuss matters relating to climate change. I am delighted to report that this promise is being fulfilled and during April I met with the following experts:
- Roger English (South Devon AONB - Manager)
- Ben Johnstone Environment Agency - Area Flood and Coastal Risk Manager)
- Mark Worsfold (South West Water - Director of Asset Management and representative on Regional Flood Committee)
- Dan Field (South Hams District Council - Senior Specialists in Engineering)
- Alan Denbigh (Slapton Line Partnership - Project Manager)
- Martin Hutchins (Devon County Council - Flood and Coastal Risk Manager)
We discussed the impact of climate change and the likely resulting consequences around flooding. It proved to be a fascinating and valuable conversation.
The findings from this series of conversations will be put into a report and sent to the COP President, Alok Sharma MP. "
