South Devon College is now offering T Levels, new qualifications that will boost access to high quality technical education for 16-18 year olds. Courses offer students a mixture of classroom learning and on-the-job experience, and are said to be more occupationally relevant to most previous technical qualifications.
This year, T Levels are available in the fields of construction, digital, and health and science, while future T Levels include business and administration, engineering and manufacturing, and legal and accounting services.
The Government is investing £3.8 billion in technical education and T Levels in the UK, including funding for new facilities and industry standard equipment.
The courses on offer at South Devon College include a 9-week industry placement with an employer, allowing students to put their skills into practice and helping to build their confidence in the workplace. On completion of their course, students can progress to skilled work, a higher apprenticeship or higher education (one T Level is equivalent to 3 A levels and carries the equivalent UCAS points).
Employers receive a £1,000 payment for hosting a T Level industry placement that commences before 31 July 2022. Local businesses that would like to be involved in providing industry placements are invited to get in touch with South Devon College.
